This is the Jesus I know.

The Jesus I pray to.

The Jesus I cling to, sing to, get mad to.

The Jesus I cry out to.

The Jesus I fall down to and listen to.

THIS Jesus.

Suffering Jesus.

Blood-soaked Jesus.

Barely alive Jesus.

Man of Sorrows, Jesus.

The, “My heart is breaking,” Jesus.

The, “Please provide another job for me,” Jesus.

The, “My pain is too much to bear,” Jesus.

Grieving Jesus.

The, “I cannot keep doing this myself, need a Simon of Cyrene to help carry my cross because the weight of it is so agonizing,” Jesus.

And when I look at our world, I see THIS Jesus.

I see Him in the fatherless.

I see Him in men addicted to drugs.

I see Him in teenagers drinking alcohol.

I see Him in failing marriages.

I see Him in young children battling disease.

I see Him in the homeless, the shunned, the rejected.

Friends, when I look at this world, I see Him in me.

And I see Him in you.

God, please give me the words to say.

Isn’t it true that we are ALL suffering?

Friends, if you are here today, suffering, meet me in these words:

Whatever is happening to US, happened to Him, FIRST.

He knows EXACTLY how we feel!

Drug addiction—-THIS Jesus.

Alcoholism—THIS Jesus.

Childhood disease—THIS Jesus.

Failing marriages—THIS Jesus.

Fatherless—THIS Jesus.

Still, THIS Jesus.

He carried it ALL.

For you.

And for me.

And because of HIM, we now have a place to put our shame. Our low self-esteem. Our hurt, our grief, our burdens. Our cuss words, our knee surgeries, our gossip. Our feelings of unworthiness, and, “I-don’t-measure-ups.” Our, ___________________.

We ALL have a place to put our suffering.

And it’s HERE.

At the feet of THIS Jesus.

Beaten, bludgeoned, bruised, insulted, whipped, stripped, ripped, pierced, nailed, crucified, JESUS.

Give it to Him.

When we allow our suffering to meet HIS, we fully understand why today is called: GOOD.

And that gives us great HOPE because we know that, just like THIS Jesus, we too, shall OVERCOME.

This is the Jesus I pray to.

The Jesus I cling to, sing to, get mad to.

The Jesus I cry out to.

The Jesus I fall down to and listen to.

The Jesus I relate to.

The Jesus, who relates to me.

THIS Jesus.

“It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him…:

2 Timothy 2:11-12a, KJV

“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,

by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”

-Apostle Paul, Galatians 6:14, KJV
